SUMMARY:
As a key member of Soho Managing Company, this position is primarily responsible for coordinating provider education and auditing providers on coding and documentation using current coding guidelines that match insurance companies' compliance audits. It is essential that this individual pays close attention to details and prioritizes detecting coding and documentation deficiencies through continuous audits. This person must deliver audit results promptly to providers, run proper reports for error detection, determine the frequency of audits, prepare educational materials, and lead new coding policy changes.

This person can build meaningful relationships with all SohoMD/SohoMC team members and be a liaison between the sub-billing departments, providers, founders, and external vendors. The right candidate loves researching coding guidelines, educating others (teaching/coaching), and analyzing relevant data to help increase coding and documentation accuracy. Must assist in payroll coding clarification to ensure providers have accurate locked notes. Lastly, you are the expert in your industry, so be comfortable providing education to founders for best practice standards to align with organizational objective goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Ensure proper education is delivered among team members, and if there are inaccuracies, bring them to the attention of the manager for correction and resolution.
- Conduct quarterly audits on providers and coders in addition to newly hired providers and coders.
- Effectively communicate with other billing staff on rejected or denied coding claims to ensure proper coding for re-submission of claims.
- Follow up with providers on delinquent coding clarifications and unlocked/unsigned notes and cc their supervisors on these requests.
- Conduct targeted audits on specific codes for error detection.
- Complete proper forms to ensure audit data is recovered.
- Ability to run reports for financial data and error collection.
- Responsible for communicating audit findings with the Billing Managers.
- Help train new staff members if needed.
- Keep current with ICD-10 and CPT changes and coding and documentation regulations.
- Keeps current with the Insurance Company’s coding requirements and guidelines and updates the Billing Manager and the rest of the billing department.
- Maintains certification by completing CEUs.
- Help coders code and bill claims if needed.
- Assist Billing Manager and executive leadership team in researching billable CPT codes and ICD–10 codes for possible reimbursement.
- Resolves problems before claim submission and assists with post-submission problem resolution by obtaining information and correcting data.
- Train new coders on coding workflow and behavioral health coding.
- Effectively educate physicians and coders regarding documentation improvement opportunities and proper coding based on current guidelines.
- Effectively educate physicians and coders on improper coding trends and documentation deficiencies based on current guidelines.
- Develop educational materials to address issues or new requirements and be able to present them to providers and the coding team.
- Coach new providers on coding requirements and regulations.
- Monitor for trends in coding corrections, or educational opportunities with coders and providers, and be able to communicate these concerns to the leadership team

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- CPC or CCS certification
- Bachelor's Degree (preferred) or Associate degree (required)
- 1+ year of Coding Educator experience.
- 2+ years of Coding and Auditing experience, preferably in Behavior Health and Family Practice.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
