Full Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Driver is responsible for operating company trucks on designated interstate and regional routes. The Driver is responsible for purchasing, loading, stacking of crates and the unloading of live rabbits from approved growers and is responsible for the health and welfare of the animals following all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, as well as company policies. The driver is also responsible for safely and timely delivering animals to the processing facility, which is necessary to ensure continued operations of the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safely operate company vehicles following all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, as well as company policies. Use of portable communication devices (PCDs) is prohibited when vehicle is in motion.
Clean grower ID cards before arriving to pick up point.
Load empty crates on the trailer.
Arrive at scheduled locations punctually. Select, count, weigh, document, and load only animals meeting company quality standards.
Weigh rabbits to ensure that no more than twenty-five fryers are in the cart at one time and no more than 5 fryers are in a crate.
Load rabbits onto truck or trailer.
Follow grower department manager's instructions regarding which equipment needs to be used on each route.
Must be flexible on route availability, which may change and vary at short notice, to meet the needs of the company. Routes will change in duration, including nighttime and/or daytime hours and overnight trips.
The Company will provide the Driver with as much advance notice as possible for route changes and overnight trips. However, the Driver is expected to be available for overnight routes with one week's advanced notice.
Maintain, complete, and submit all expense and purchasing records in a neat, accurate and timely manner.
Follow company timekeeping procedures by clocking in and out.
Understand and promote the Quality System as part of the company's overall goal toward continual improvement through strict adherence to all company policies and procedures, as well as actively support and uphold the principals and values of the company.
Follow appropriate ethical and safety procedures for the transporting and handling of live animals as outlined in the Company's Animal Welfare Policy, the Animal Welfare Policy for Holding, Handling & Processing Live Animals, and the Animal Welfare Policy for Transportation of Live Animals.
Tolerate exposure to rabbit fur, urine, odors, scratches, and bites.
Responsible for proper maintenance of the Company vehicle including pre-trip inspections, checking vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order,

scheduling regular maintenance, and keeping the vehicle clean. Smoking and vaping are never allowed
in company vehicles.

Keep vehicle, trailer, crate, and cage grower ID cards clean.
Maintain a log of working hours, and immediately notify the grower department manager of any required vehicle service/ repair as needed.
Serve as a courteous company representative in all interactions with growers and other individuals, and keep management informed of any relevant information.
Maintain confidentiality of company regarding all matters, including information on growers, routes, and all other company business related information.
Make independent, informed decisions while out on assigned routes.
Complete load sheets, grower tickets, and pre-trip logs daily
Report vehicle issues to management promptly.
Make sure all growers have signed the Antibiotic sheet and check for growers' numbers.
Remind growers that they can report fryers for the next stop on the sheet if they choose.
Responsible for route staying on schedule.
Comply with Pel-Freez, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies and procedures, food safety standards, general safety, animal welfare, and good manufacturing practices.
Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
Perform other duties as requested.

Based on the essential duties listed above, this position is considered safety-sensitive and therefore all work must be performed following quality standards and established safety procedures.

EDUCATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
Previous experience working in food production, on a farm, or in a similar agricultural setting is preferred.
A valid driver's license and the ability to be covered under the Company's automobile insurance is required.
Current commercial driver's license (CDL) is a plus.
