About our Company

The Hudson Valley Seed Company provides gardeners and farmers with a robust catalog of over 400 varieties of open-pollinated seeds, along with tubers, bulbs, tools, supplies, and art work. Because we offer unique varieties that we cannot source from suppliers, we produce many of these seeds in our own certified organic fields in the Hudson Valley of New York State. We celebrate the uniqueness of the varieties in our catalog by commissioning artwork for each of our Art Packs—one-of-a-kind folding seed packets, each designed by a different artist and telling the unique story of that seed.

We are a team of 25-30 hard-working farmers and office workers collaborating to provide a compelling and life-affirming product to the world. We are based in beautiful Accord, New York, within a few minutes of our growing fields.

About the Position

We are currently seeking a full-time Shipping & Receiving Associate to join our team on a full-time basis, starting immediately. We're looking for a dedicated, detail-oriented, independent person.

This full-time, in-person position will have two main areas of focus: Shipping, and Receiving & Product Support. These will ebb and flow with our seasonal business cycles and the exact schedule will be created with input from the Order Fulfillment & Shipping Manager and the Purchasing & Product Manager, both of whom you will be working with closely. This is a new position, so we will be creating the structure together.

For the Shipping area which will average out to be 2 days/week over the course of the year, responsibilities will include:

Picking products from a pick list, including but not limited to seed packs, gardening supplies, and art products.
Pulling and checking orders.
Carefully packing products into mailers and boxes.
Processing packaged orders via our shipping platform.
Performing inventory checks as needed.

For the Receiving and Product Support area which will average out to be 3 days/week over the course of the year, responsibilities will include:

Receiving and processing all seed deliveries and incoming inventory, both physically and electronically within our software platform.
Coordinating with Four Fold Farm as seed harvests are delivered into inventory.
Overseeing the correct storage of all seeds and plant materials so that quality is optimized.
Conducting germination testing, both by collecting samples for outside labs and overseeing in-house germ testing with our germination box.
Sharing testing outcomes with relevant parties (sales, product, production teams).
Assisting the Purchasing & Product Manager in the creation and maintenance of product data in our catalog and back-end systems, especially related to new products.
Being flexible and willing to help in other tasks within the Product Team as-needed.

Our ideal candidate for this position has the following qualifications:

At least 1-2 years experience in an e-commerce order fulfillment setting.
Comfort with computer use and ability to navigate basic software platforms.
A keen eye for detail and the ability to differentiate small differences between products and orders.
The ability to move quickly while maintaining a relaxed and friendly attitude.
Comfort with standing, walking, bending, and being in motion for a full work week.
The ability to lift 50 lbs. when assisting with receiving goods.
An appreciation of or interest in gardening and art.
The ability to work independently as well as in friendly collaboration with the rest of our small team.
The ability to juggle multiple tasks independently without getting frazzled.
Flexibility to pivot from task to task as needed.
Reliable transportation to and from our rural location in Accord, NY (30 minutes from Kingston or New Paltz, 15 minutes from Ellenville).
