Full Job Description

Position Overview

We are looking for a passionate, full-time Kitchen Lab Facilitator for the Food + Farm Exploration Center (exploration center) who is enthusiastic about food, agriculture and education. This role supports the Education Team with all aspects of kitchen classes and is responsible for the maintenance, care and upkeep of the Kitchen Lab, a place to host unique culinary offerings. The Kitchen Lab is designed to build confidence in the kitchen using common household equipment with an objective of creating learning experiences that are easily duplicated in a personal setting for a wide range of ages and skillsets.

This position will report to the Education Program Manager to ensure exceptional Kitchen Lab and other interactive experiences at the exploration center. The ability to work with all age groups in an instructional setting is fundamental to this role; in addition to a love of wholesome, nutritional cooking, a keen attention to detail and exceptional communication skills. An interest in and knowledge of production agriculture is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan, prep, demonstrate, and promote instructional culinary/cooking, food preservation, safe food handling and sanitation techniques to adult, youth/family visitors with a focus on WI grown crops.
Develop and maintain industry partnerships to create culinary classes with or garner ideas from.
Develop and maintain non-industry Kitchen Lab partnership classes and rentals.
Maintain the Kitchen Lab manual and kitchen inventory of supplies and food items. Keep an orderly and clean kitchen space.
Work with behind-the-scenes sales and development programs (e.g. ACME, Humanitru) to build out calendar of events, ticketing needs and maintain partner communications as needed.
Maintain familiarity with exploration center curriculum, demonstration plots and greenhouse to ensure preparedness to create and lead Kitchen Lab “dig-in” lessons and culinary classes.
Coordinate with the Education Team to plan and implement use of the greenhouse to support kitchen programs and other educational offerings.
Work with the Education Team to assist with school and youth group field trips, drop in programming, outreach, and additional programs as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

Preference will be given to individuals with Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) state certified teaching license or associate degree or higher in culinary arts.
Applicants with two plus years of cooking/kitchen experience will be reviewed. Applicable certifications helpful or a willingness to obtain (e.g. ServSafe Kitchen Manager, Allergens).
Able to speak comfortably in front of small and large (20+) groups of people for an hour or more.
Effective communication and teaching skills for instructing diverse personalities and ages.
Strong organizational skills; ambitious work ethic and follow-through; excellent attention to detail.
High-energy with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and AV technology is helpful.

Physical Demands:

Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, and/or evenings, as needed.
Ability to climb ladders and other physical requirements including stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing (ladders), reaching above the shoulders, lifting.

Exploration Center Commitments

The starting salary range for this position is $45,000 per year depending on qualifications.
Paid time off (PTO) and eight paid holidays for full-time employees.

A 401K plan is offered following one year of employment for full-time employees.
Offers of employment are contingent upon results of thorough background, drug screen and reference checks.
