Certification and Experience:
● Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)

Role Overview:
The Head Technician is a crucial member of our veterinary hospital team, serving as the floor leader in the absence of the Nurse Leader. This individual has access to DEA medications and is prioritized for performing anesthesia. They will supervise estimates and invoices, assist in training and supervising other technicians, and provide high-quality care and treatment for animals. The Head Technician will support the Nurse Leader and Doctors, ensuring efficient and effective hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Supervision and Management:
○ Lead the floor in the absence of the Nurse Leader, ensuring smooth operations.
○ Assist in training and supervising veterinary technicians, ensuring they adhere to hospital standards and protocols.
○ Supervise the preparation of estimates and invoices, ensuring accuracy and transparency.
2. Clinical Duties:
○ Assist veterinarians in the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of animals.
○ Administer medications, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
○ Perform routine procedures such as wound care and suture removal.
○ Monitor animals during surgeries and provide post-operative care.
○ Ensure proper restraint and handling of animals during exams and procedures.
○ Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of veterinarians.
○ Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
3. Laboratory and Diagnostic Procedures:
○ Collect and process laboratory samples, including blood, urine, and tissue.
○ Perform routine diagnostic tests, such as blood chemistry profiles and X-rays.
○ Prepare samples for laboratory analysis and interpret test results.
○ Assist veterinarians in interpreting and communicating diagnostic findings to clients.
4. Client Communication and Education:
○ Greet and communicate with clients in a professional and empathetic manner.
○ Maintain clear and open communication with clients regarding their pets' health, medications, and treatment plans.
○ Respond to client inquiries through phone, email, or in-person interactions.
○ Uphold the company's values of transparency and empathy in all client interactions.
○ Be available for photos and videos for marketing purposes.
5. Hospital Cleanliness and Organization:
○ Ensure the cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, treatment areas, ICU, cages, laundry, dog kitchen and restrooms.
○ Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
○ Perform laundry duties, ensuring that all patient towels, bedding, and gowns are clean and readily available.
○ Maintain a clean and organized ICU, ensuring all equipment is functioning properly and all TVs are displaying Instinct.
○ Regularly clean and organize cages and patient housing, ensuring a comfortable and sanitary environment for all animals.
○ Ensure proper disposal of medical waste and sharps, following safety and regulatory guidelines to prevent contamination and injury.
○ Monitor inventory levels and communicate with the manager as needed to ensure continuous availability of essential items.
6. Medical Equipment and Hospital Environment Management:
○ Operate and maintain veterinary equipment, including X-ray machines, anesthesia machines, endoscopes, ultrasounds, infusion pumps, heaters, dopplers, and multiparameter monitors.
○ Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
○ Ensure the cleanliness and organization of rooms, cages, and restrooms.
○ Oversee laundry operations to maintain a hygienic environment.
○ Maintain a clean and organized ICU, ensuring all TVs are functioning and displaying Instinct.
7. Qualifications:
● Excellent knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common medical conditions.
● Proficiency in performing veterinary technical procedures such as blood draws, catheter placement, and surgical assistance.
● Familiarity with medical terminology, laboratory procedures, and diagnostic imaging.
● Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective client education and team collaboration.
● Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a dynamic environment.
● Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards animals and their owners.
● Physical stamina to handle animals of various sizes and potentially lift heavy objects.
● Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and be on-call for emergencies as needed.
● Access to DEA medications and responsibility for ensuring their proper use and storage.
